My History
Ron began working with survey crews during his teenage years. Prior to graduating from college, he worked part-time as a civil
technician, draftsman, and surveyor through the summers and during the school year whenever possible. After obtaining his engineering
degree, Ron worked as a design engineer where his major responsibilities involved negotiating contracts, supervising drafting and engineer
technicians, serving on public hearing panels, and design of numerous City subdivisions, sanitary sewer lift stations, hydraulic
structures, expressways, and water and sewer transmission lines.
As a field inspector/engineer Ron performed on-site inspection, the coordination and management of all materials testing and sampling,
coordination of the surveying effort, logging as-built information on field drawings, tabulation of field quantities for monthly and
final pay estimates, negotiating change orders, reviewing and compiling job schedules. Ron also worked as a Design Engineer in Water
Resources as part of the design team analyzing the existing utilities at Fort Hood, Texas. He completed two projects as Project Manager
in the Special Projects Division concerning Mobilization Master Planning for the U. S. Army responsible for the plan preparation, both
graphical and narrative, as well as the coordination of the Mobilization Master Plan Team. It was his responsibility to supervise all
portions of the Master Planning Process, including the preparation of pay estimates, project flow charts, negotiations of change orders,
and coordination of sub-consultants.
In 1986 Ron , and his wife Donna started Tierra West. Providing services throughout Albuquerque, and around the state New Mexico
and Texas, Tierra West’s projects have include a variety of developments from small in-fill developments to the planning and design of
large new community subdivisions, planned unit development projects with regional impacts, as well as commercial and industrial projects.
During the last 23 years, the firm has assisted in planning all of the components that are needed in the mixed use development. These include numerous projects
from mid to large scale master plans to individual components of each type of use. Throughout his professional career, Ron has successfully guided projects
from the concept and design stage, through the governmental entitlement process and then onto construction.
